IWEA PROGRAMS Awards IWEA has awards programs that specifically recognize Operator accomplishments. The Hatfield Award acknowledges an operator of a wastewater treatment plant for outstanding performance and professionalism. The Burke Safety Award recognizes treatment plants based on the quality of their documented safety program as well as innovative actions taken to prevent injuries and corrective measures taken when an injury occurs. Operations Challenge Our annual conference features an Operators Challenge is to provide a fun but educational experience. There are four challenges to choose participate in; Laboratory, Maintenance, Safety, and Operations.  Safety Resources The IWEA Safety & Security Committee provides articles focused on maintaining a safe workplace for water environment professionals. Scholarships IWEA has endowed a scholarship available to students attending SIUE's Environmental Resources Training Center. We also have a scholarship available for members attending the Illinois Public Service Institute (ISPI) program.

 

WEF PROGRAMS On Demand Wastewater Library (OWWL) The On-demand Wastewater Library is a WEF sponsored library of peer-reviewed Operator Fact Sheets. It is focused on providing science-based principles and best management practices that can be applied at water resource facilities and utilities of the future.  Operator Scholarships WEF sponsors a scholarship which provides provide funding for individuals who are seeking water sector operator education, training, or certification to enter the industry or to advance their knowledge, skills, abilities or license. WEF Skills Builder WEF provides online quizzes that all you to test your knowledge of math, safety, and a variety of other topics related to wastewater operations.

 

IEPA PROGRAMS Wastewater Operator Certification The Illinois Environmental Protection Agency website provides information on attaining and maintaining wastewater operation certification.

 

WASTEWATER OPERATOR GROUPS Illinois Association of Water Pollution Control Operators IAWPCO brings together wastewater treatment professionals that represent government municipalities, private industries, universities, and student apprentices across Illinois. Their websites includes a schedule of training events and contact information for local operator groups. IAWPCO works with IWEA to develop and host IWPC, our joint annual conference.
