Superintendent - Water/Wastewater Department

Position Summary
The Superintendent manages the operation and
maintenance of the City's water and wastewater reclamation
facilities, including the potable water systems, SCADA, 10
sanitary pumping stations, storm water pumping stations and
the city's 8 MGD water reclamation facility. The position
reports to the City's Director of Water/Wastewater.
Qualifications
-
Minimum of five years
experience in wastewater treatment plant and potable water
supply operations and maintenance, including experience with
lift station and water production operations.

Minimum of three years
experience in a supervisory or lead capacity involving water
and wastewater systems and operations.

Possession of a Class I
Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator’s License and a Class
“C” Public Water Supply Operator Certificate is highly
preferred.

Possession of a valid
driver’s license.

Superior communication and
interpersonal skills.
Working Conditions
-
Exposure to noise, rotating
machinery, dirt, grease, chemicals, oil, dust, fumes and
temperature extremes.

Occasional lifting to 25
lbs. and ability to maneuver on catwalks, ladders and in
manholes.

Position maintains 24-hour on-call availability for
emergency situations.

Job Requirements

BS/MS Civil/Environmental Engineering, Chemical

Ideal candidate will be well rounded and have
knowledge of both environmental remediation and
pollution control technology.

Industrial/commercial project management and
marketing experience in site investigation, regulatory
compliance, technology application, site remediation and
closure (RCRA/CERCLA).

Knowledge and experience in industrial

Demonstrated ability and interest in business
development/expansion.

management ($200K-1,000K range) for private sector

Willingness to travel to locations in the US.

Manager
Village of Glendale Heights
The Village
of Glendale Heights (pop. 32,000) seeks an energetic,
experienced professional for the newly created position of
WPCF Division Manager in the Public Services Department.
Glendale Heights is a diverse community comprised of (6)
Districts, covering approximately (8) square miles in DuPage
County. The Village has a total budget of $45 million; the
Public Services Director and staff manage approximately 30%
of the annual budget.
The WPCF
Division Manager will performs a variety of administrative,
supervisory and technical tasks in the maintenance and
operation of the municipal wastewater treatment systems,
equipment and facilities. The WPCF Division Manager will
provide organizational direction and leadership to WPCF
staff members. Must have solid knowledge of the laws,
ordinances, and statues that apply, strong leadership,
project management skills, and proficiency with computer
office software.
The ideal
candidate will have a degree in environmental science,
public health, civil engineering, public administration or a
closely related field and seven years of progressive
municipal management experience, preferably in public
works/public services environment. Effective communication
skills are essential. A history of innovative thinking,
prior position advancements and a commitment to continued
professional development are highly desirable.
We will only
consider applicants who possess an Illinois Class 1 Waste
Water Treatment Works Operator's Certificate (required
before employment start date), and have the ability to
interpret specific chemical and biological analyses.
A Valid
Illinois State CDL driver’s license or ability to obtain one

The salary
range is $75,339.82
- $89,448.84,

Services Division Manager City of St. Charles
Job Description This position is responsible for planning, scheduling,
coordinating, and supervising the operations, maintenance and
analytical activities of the wastewater treatment facilities,
lift stations, sanitary sewer, and laboratory functions. Will
ensure compliance with municipal, state, and federal regulations
regarding operation, maintenance, and final effluent quality
standards of the City’s permitted discharges, all aspects of the
City’s Industrial Pretreatment Program, Biosolids Reuse Program
in accordance with the overall objectives of the Clean Water
Act, and administering the potable water microbiological
laboratory, including directing and performing laboratory
analysis as required by the EPA, ILEPA, and the IDPH in
compliance with all applicable regulatory requirements. The
work is highly technical and has significant impact on
regulatory compliance.
Requirements
This position requires strong knowledge and understanding of EPA
and IDPH water and wastewater regulations, sewer maintenance and
repair methods, procedures, and techniques, laboratory test
results and activated sludge process control strategies and
troubleshooting, operation, maintenance and repair of all
relevant machinery, equipment and tools, and thorough knowledge
of work hazards and preventative safety measures and
precautions, including, but not limited to OSHA and IDOL
standards. Also required are excellent written and verbal
communication skills to communicate effectively and intermediate
computer skills with Word and Excel, Lotus Notes, and other
software as needed. Physical activity under varying
environmental conditions to include lifting up to 50 pounds, to
ascend and descend into a manhole, and possess a valid driver’s
license is also required.
A Bachelor of Science and
a minimum of 8 years technical experience in wastewater
treatment plant operation, sanitary sewer collections system,
maintenance, repair and laboratory analysis and three 3 years of
supervisory experience or equivalent combination of experience
and education that provides the required knowledge, skills, and
abilities. Possession of an Illinois Class 1 Wastewater
Treatment Plant Operator’s License issued by the Illinois EPA,
or receipt of one within one year of commencing employment or
transfer into position. Responding to emergencies 24/7,
carrying a wireless communication device, and maintaining
primary residency within the boundaries (within 1 year of
employment – see attached) is also required.
