Board Member Positions and Duties

President

  • General supervision of IWEA affairs.
  • Preside at all conferences and meetings.
  • Ex-officio member of all committee except the nominating committee.
  • Appoint members for all committees where membership is not otherwise specified in the Constitution & Bylaws.
  • Prior to Annual Meeting, appoint a nominating committee consisting of at least three members.
  • Recruit Committee Chairs.
  • Assign Executive Board Members to serve as liaisons to IWEA committees.
  • Represent IWEA as requested by other organizations. (Examples include WEF Specialty Conferences, Illinois Water Alliance)

President Elect

  • Perform duties of the President in the event the President is unable to carry on the functions of the office.
  • Review and approve all bills prior to payment
  • Assist the President in performance of prescribed duties.
  • Serve as liaison to committee chairs as assigned by President.
  • Recruit committee chairs for year he/she will serve as President.

First Vice President

  • Perform duties of the President Elect in the event the President Elect is unable to carry on the functions of the office.
  • Assist the President and other Board Members in performance of prescribed duties.
  • Serve as liaison to committee chairs as assigned by President.

Second Vice President

  • Perform duties of the First Vice President in the event the First Vice President is unable to carry on the functions of the office.
  • Assist the President and other Board Members in performance of prescribed duties.
  • Serve as liaison to committee chairs as assigned by President.
  • Maintain calendar of association activities.
  • The Second Vice President is encourage to attend Annual WEF Leadership Seminar .

Past President

  • Assist President and Executive Board as requested.
  • Traditionally serves as Chair of Nominating Committee.
Secretary
  • Serve as the Executive Officer of the IWEA.
  • Operate under the general direction of the President and the Executive Board.
  • Prepare agenda for and attend all meetings of the Executive Board.
  • Record and distribute proceedings of Executive Board meetings.
  • Maintain Association records, including the Association membership list.
  • Sign contracts as needed.
  • Serve as Main Contact for issues associated with the Annual Conference, including working with conference center staff.
  • Recruit exhibitors for the Annual Conference.
  • Process registrations for Annual Conference.
  • Process printing/mailings for Annual Conference.
  • Design and type conference handbook.
  • Design and type conference vendor "quick list."
  • Process printing/mailings for educational seminars.
  • Act as liaison between treasurer and bank. (This is necessary due to bank location.)
  • Act as liaison between WEF and IWEA.
  • Schedule and reserve locations for Board Meetings.
  • Maintain contact information for all Board Members and Committee Chairs.
  • Distribute contact list to all Board Members and Committee Chairs at the IWEA Annual Meeting.

Treasurer

  • Serve as the Financial Officer for the Association.
  • Operate under the general direction of the President and the Executive Board.
  • Ensure all monies due to the Association and Federation are collected without loss and transferred to the appropriate accounts.
  • Ensure that all bills and payment vouchers are proper and in order.
  • Sign, or see to signing, of checks
  • Make available financial records for annual audits.
  • Prepare quarterly financial summary of accrued income and expenses to the Executive Board.
  • At the IWEA Annual Business Meeting, present a balance sheet of the books as of the end of the previous fiscal year and as of the end of the month preceding the Annual Meeting.
  • Consult with the Executive Board as to the custody and investment of funds and preparation of an annual budget.
  • Prepare and file tax documents.

Directors

  • Represent the IWEA in the business of the Water Environment Federation House of Delegates.
  • Attend annual meeting of House of Delegates at WEFTEC.
  • Attend Director meeting at one of the annual regional WEFMAX meetings.
  • Attend all IWEA executive committee meetings.
  • Serve as the official IWEA host for the WEF representative at the IWEA annual meeting.
  • Provide the communication link between the WEF and IWEA as necessary and as directed by the WEF or IWEA.
